Former Berkeley County Sheriff Jimmy Rogers dies

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A former Sheriff of Berkeley County passed away Tuesday in a North Charleston hospital, according to the Dial-Murry Funeral Home.

James William "Jimmy" Rogers, Sr., 82, of Moncks Corner died Tuesday.

Originally from Saluda, Rogers was known by his family and friends as "Monk," according to his obituary.

Rogers is the father of Capt. James W. "Will" Rogers of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office, who was injured in a shooting while on patrol in 2015.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Dial-Murry Funeral Home in Moncks Corner. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the MUSC Children's Hospital Fund, PO Box 250201, Charleston, SC 29425.
