Academic Magnet ranked eighth best public high school in the country

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Academic Magnet has been ranked eighth in U.S. News and World Report's 2016 list of the best public high schools in the country, and first in the state.

Serving 617 students in grades nine through twelve, all courses offered at the magnet school are either honors or Advanced Placement. Each student is also required to complete a yearlong research project.

The magnet school has a graduation rate of 100 percent, according to U.S. News. The school also ranks third in U.S. News' list of best public magnet schools.

The Charleston School of the Arts is the second South Carolina school on the list, ranked at 349th nationally. Dutch Fork High School in Irmo is the third South Carolina school, listed at number 834.
