CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Westbound lanes of I-26 near the I-526 interchange have reopened following an accident involving a car and a tanker.

Images sent by a witness showed a white sedan that appeared to be wedged beneath a tanker in the middle lane of the roadway at approximately 4 p.m.

The crash was reported near Exit 212B, one of the exits to I-526. The two right lanes were blocked, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

As of approximately 5:30 p.m., those lanes are no longer showing as blocked, but traffic maps show slower traffic, likely the result of a heavy backup while the lanes were closed.

It is not clear whether injuries have been reported.
