Vehicle fire leaves one in hospital

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Fire Department says that an SUV burst into flames after a person was moving fuel from the boat to the vehicle.

The incident happened Sunday on Oakcrest Drive on James Island.

The James Island Fire Department, Charleston Police, and the Charleston County EMS also responded to the scene.

According to the fire department that fire has left one person in the hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the fire and quickly extinguished the flames.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly how the fire was started.

The Charleston Fire Department would also like to remind citizens:

-Gasoline is a highly volatile liquid that produces vapors that can easily ignite.

-Use extreme caution when fueling or defueling any equipment.

-Always read and understand fueling instruction on tanks, cans or at the fueling station.
