CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Roads have reopened in downtown Charleston hours after a gas leak was initially reported.

The Charleston Fire Department says crews were able to complete repairs and stop leans on a four-inch gas line at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Charleston Police said Fishburne Street between President and Rutledge had been closed because of a gas leak at Ashley and Fishburne at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday. Authorities had also closed down Ashley Avenue from the Crosstown to Congress because of the leak.

Officials with the Charleston Fire Department said construction workers in the area of Ashley Avenue and Fishburne Street cut the natural gas line.
