Investigators arrest suspect in North Charleston shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department has arrested a 28-year-old man accused in a shooting.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Derrick Porter of North Charleston and charged him with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Officers found him in the area of Rivers and Cosgrove avenues.

He's expected to go before a bond judge on Tuesday.

On April 16, officers responded to the Max Quick Stop parking lot on McMillan Avenue for a report of someone being shot.

When officers arrived they saw the victim sitting in the driver's seat of a car with the window open.

Authorities say the victim was breathing, making groaning sounds and had a gunshot wound to his forehead.

NCPD officials say as emergency crews were transporting the victim to a stretcher, a loaded 9mm gun fell from the victim's pants.

Officers reported locating cash near the center console and smelled marijuana inside the vehicle.

Investigators found a 9mm shell case on the pavement next to the right front passenger side tire.

The victim was transported to MUSC.
