CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Many Charleston firefighters will share a nearly one million dollar settlement with the City of Charleston.
The settlement stems from a 2013 lawsuit filed by six Charleston firefighters claiming they were cheated out of overtime pay.
On Tuesday night, Charleston City Council voted to approve the transfer of money to fund the settlement of $912,690.
Attorney Ben Le Clercq, who represented the firefighters, said the City of Charleston decided to pay all qualified firefighters owed back wages – not just the plaintiffs.
He said firefighters will receive their settlement checks on Wednesday.
