CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies arrested one man in connection with an assault at the county's detention center.
A judge set bond of $150,000 for Everette Rashad Duffy, who is charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, according to Charleston County Sheriff's Lt. Chris Brokaw.
Investigators say Duffy assaulted a fellow inmate at the Al Cannon Detention Center Monday at approximately 11:45 p.m. Both Duffy and the victim were being held in the same cell for independent charges when they got into a verbal confrontation about the victim's family members, an affidavit states. During the argument, Duffy reportedly struck the victim, threw him to the ground against the concrete floor and caused serious bodily injury, deputies say.
The victim suffered four broken teeth, injuries to facial bones and fractures to his skull, the affidavit states. The victim was transported to MUSC where he is in intensive care being treated for those injuries, according to investigators.
They say Duffy voluntarily admitted that he committed the assault.
