MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

School officials say a pet python that went missing at a Mt. Pleasant school was found Friday night.

The python is a non-venomous snake that was brought in for a science class at Laing Middle School, Charleston County School District spokesman Daniel Head said.

Animal Control was immediately called once it was discovered it was loose.

According to animal control, the snake is a ball python named "Barbarossa" who escaped from a container.

There were no children at the school as classes had already let out for the day, Head said.

Robert Van Wormer with Southern Trappers said he was on scene, but left to get some backup to find the snake.
