Coroner identifies two killed in Highway 27 accident in Ridgeville

Authorities have identified two people who drowned following a head on collision in Ridgeville. 

The Dorchester County Coroner's Office says 74-year-old Steve Singletary and 66-year-old William Gooding, both of Eutawville, died on Monday. 

According to the coroner, the men were in a GMC Sierra truck that was involved in a head on collision with a Jeep Liberty SUV on Highway 27. 

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene with the cause of death drowning. 

Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol state the accident was near Bridlewood Farms Parkway. 

Authorities say an SUV was heading south on Highway 27 and swerved left to avoid hitting something in the roadway. 

According to SCHP, the SUV then hit the GMC pick up truck.

The truck then overturned into a creek and submerged into the water. 

The driver of the SUV was transported to Trident.

Two minor children in the vehicle have unknown injuries. 

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
