St. George police officer arrested on child pornography charges

A St. George police officer has been arrested on child pornography charges.

SLED arrested 34-year-old Shaun Michael Dumont of St. George on Wednesday.

According to St. George police, Dumont has been fired from the department.

He has been charged with one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

According to investigators, Dumont solicited sexually explicit images from a minor through social media.

In addition, SLED has charged him with public official misconduct in office since investigators say he was soliciting when he was on duty.

The St. George Police Department released the following statement on Dumont's arrest:

The St. George Police Department received credible information of possible wrongdoing by a St. George police officer. With this information Chief Camp did not feel it would be appropriate to further investigate this matter and felt it would be in the best interest to have SLED investigate this officer. The officer in question has been terminated by the st. George police chief...

Dumont was locked up at the Colleton County Detention Center.
