Two men injured after high speed chase ends with truck on its roof

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A Lowcountry high speed chase injured two men after a chase ended with a truck on its roof.

Officials with the Colleton County Fire and Rescue say two men were injured in a high speed chase in the 2700 block of Bells Highway at Jones Road Swamp on Tuesday.

According to a witness, a Ford pickup truck lost control and flipped over multiple times.

"The truck came to rest up an embankment on the west bound side of the highway, lying on its roof," CCFR officials said.

When crews arrived they found the passenger on the ground near the road.

According to authorities, the man crawled to the location following the collision and suffered multiple traumatic injuries.

"The driver of the truck was trapped inside the truck with the vehicle resting on his arm," CCFR officials said. "Firefighter-Paramedics began treating the driver while he was still entrapment in the wreckage. The truck was stabilized, then Firefighters used Holmatro Rescue Tools to cut away portions of the doors and a Hydraulic Spreader to lift the truck off of the man's arm."

Authorities say the driver was extricated and transported to Colleton Medical Center in Medic 26.

Crews transported the passenger to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville.

The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
