'Shell-ebrate' World Turtle Day at the S.C. Aquarium

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The South Carolina Aquarium is inviting everyone to come help them 'shell-ebrate' World Turtle Day.

This May 21 The S.C. Aquarium recognizes Word Turtle Day, a day focused on the care, conservation, and awareness of some of the oldest reptiles in the world.

The S.C. Aquarium right here in Charleston is joining in the festivities by offering special turtle-themed activities and programs, along with tours of the Sea Turtle Hospital to give visitors a feel of what goes on behind the scenes.

Activities taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 21 will give visitors the chance to:

  • Learn about different species of turtles at Education Stations.
  • Enjoy sea turtle story time and a sea turtle themed craft and coloring table. 
  • Watch terrapins, some of the smallest turtles at the aquarium, paint unique works of art.
  • Meet the people that protect endangered sea turtles along the S.C. coast. 
  • Take a tour of the sea turtle hospital.
  • Choose from four different tours.
  • Come eye to eye with sea turtles currently recovering.
  • Find out more about their daily care. 

World Turtle Day is a great way to learn more about turtles, the threats facing them, and what can be done to protect them.

World Turtle Day activities are included with admission.
