Spearman honoring high school grads heading to military

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman is honoring South Carolina high school graduates who are entering the military, a military academy or participating in ROTC in college.

Spearman is holding a news conference at Dreher High School in Columbia on Tuesday to honor about 50 high school graduates from across the state who have decided to serve the country.

She will present them with red, white and blue honor cords to thank them for their commitment to the armed forces. More than 2,000 cords are being sent to high schools around the state to honor graduates who are beginning military service.

It's part of a new state program to recognize such students prior to their high school graduations.
