Women prepare for 80th anniversary of Miss South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) -

Women from across the state are preparing to compete for the coveted title of Miss South Carolina 2016. The scholarship pageant is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

This year, 54 young ladies between the ages of 17 and 24 will compete for the Miss South Carolina crown. There are also 62 teen contestants that will be vying for the Miss South Carolina Teen title.

Contestants will begin arriving in Columbia on Saturday. The preliminary competition begins on Tuesday, June 21 and each contestant will face an interview, talent, evening wear, on-stage question and physical fitness competition.

Contestants will also tour the capital city during pageant week, visiting with area children and business owners.

The Miss Teen final is scheduled for Friday, June 24, and Miss South Carolina final is scheduled for Saturday, June 25. Both competitions take place at the Township Auditorium.

Viewers can cast a vote for Miss South Carolina and Miss Teen South Carolina People's Choice, which will help place them in the top 16 contestants. Click here to vote for your favorite contestants.

Miss South Carolina Teen will go on to compete at Miss America's Outstanding Teen pageant in August in Orlando, Florida. The new Miss South Carolina will head to Atlantic City, New Jersey in September for the Miss America Pageant.

According to the Miss SC website, the Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization is the largest provider of scholarships for young women in the Miss America system.
