SANTEE, SC (WCSC) -

Looking for some free, family-friendly fun this Memorial Day?

Then come check out some of the best bluegrass and country music bands the Palmetto State has to offer at the 15th Annual Lone Star Bluegrass & Country Music Hoe Down this Memorial Day weekend.

Weather permitting, this event starts on Friday May 27 and ends on Sunday May 29.

Other than tips for the bands, this event is free to the public.

The Flatland Express Bluegrass Band from Orangeburg will kick off the event Friday at 6:45 p.m.  Five members make up this award-winning bluegrass band with each one taking a turn at vocals. They perform traditional and non-traditional bluegrass, gospel, and you can expect to hear some "oldies but goodies" from Flatland Express as well.

Saturday starts off with The Lone Star Pickin' Parlor at 2 p.m. This group of local pickers and players came together about three years ago and play at Lone Star Barbecue and Mercantile on the first and third Friday each month.

The Slope Valley Bluegrass Band will keep the music going with their set starting around 3:45 p.m.  This will be the groups first appearance at Lone Star, and you can expect a few laughs as this group from Hartsville always throw some comedy into the mix.

Up next is a local musician from Charleston who is making waves in the regional country scene. Lauren Hall will start playing at 5:45 Saturday afternoon. Lauren will open for Travis Tritt when he comes to town in July, so be sure to come early to get a seat to see this up-and-coming artist.

Another local bluegrass band will close out the night. The Triangle Bluegrass Band has a setlist featuring everything from J.J. Cale to Jimmy Martin, and this foursome is sure to send you home satisfied Saturday night.

On Sunday, all performances will be in the main dining room of the restaurant.

Cindy Mckeowen will begin at Noon on Sunday. This contemporary Christian singer from Cameron, SC has three CD's to her credit, so be sure to get there early to check her out.

The Thomas Family from Columbia will bring the festival to an end. Set to start at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, this group is made up of a mom, dad, their two sons, and their daughter. It truly will be a family affair when this group brings the curtains down on Memorial Day weekend.

The Lone Star Restaurant and Gift Shop will be open during all hours of the event.

Lone Star BBQ and Mercantile is located at 2212 State Park Road in Santee, SC.
