Police release photo of car similar to one in fatal hit and run

VIDEO: Police searching for vehicle involved in N. Charleston hit and run

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - North Charleston Police released an image of car similar to the one involved in an early-morning hit and run that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy.

Davon McNeil died Saturday at MUSC from head injuries sustained in an auto-pedestrian accident approximately three hours after the accident on Spruill Avenue, Chief Deputy Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O'Neal said.

The accident took place around 5 a.m. as McNeil was walking in the bike lane and was struck by a green two-door Pontiac, North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. Police released an image of a similar vehicle Sunday night as part of their search for clues.

Pryor says the car should have significant front-end damage with paint missing from the front bumper. Damage to the windshield could also be visible, he said.

Police say the vehicle, reportedly occupied by three Hispanic males, then left the scene heading west on Spruill Avenue. The witness who described the car did not mention any specific markings, Pryor said.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact North Charleston Police at (843) 740-2800 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
