Woman arrested for filing false police report

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Charleston woman was arrested after police say she filed a false police report in which she claimed the father of her children pointed a gun at her.

Kiyla Shala Bolger, 23, is charged with filing a false police report, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Bolger called 911 at approximately 11:45 p.m. on May 21 to report her children's father had pointed a handgun at her, leading police to issue a warrant for domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature against the man.

That warrant was rescinded on Tuesday when police say Bolger came to the Charleston Police Department of her own free will and told a detective the claim was not true.

Bolger said she made the false statement to police because she was angry with the man and "wanted to teach him a lesson," Francis said.

The man was not arrested.

Bolger was being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
