NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have identified a man who died following a shooting at an apartment complex in North Charleston.

The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 25-year-old Taundre Watkins died at MUSC from his injuries on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 3:30 pm on Monday , North Charleston police officers responded to the Reserve at Ashley River Apartments on 6520 Dorchester Rd. in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived they reported finding a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to NCPD officials, the victim was transported by EMS and later died at the hospital.

Investigators say the victim and the suspect were involved in an argument, when according to the suspect, the victim allegedly took out a weapon.

The suspect told investigators that he feared for his life and fired his weapon striking the victim.

"Based on the facts presented at this time no charges are being filed against the shooter (who resides at the apartment)," NCPD officials said.

Police are continuing the investigation.

Residents had reported an ambulance responding to the scene earlier.

Dispatch officials said an emergency call for a reported assault came in at 3:32 p.m.

Many who live in the Reserve at Ashley River apartments said the shootings scare them.

"I feel unsafe," Ayla Courvoisie said. "I don't really want to live here anymore. "
