WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) -

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating after a fire damaged some Sniders Highway apartments.

According to officials, the Walterboro Fire Department responded to a single apartment on fire at Colleton Heights Monday at 11:22 p.m. with the assistance of Colleton County Fire-Rescue.

"City firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a second story apartment," reads a post on the Colleton County Fire-Rescue website. "Crews used a deck gun to knock down most of the flames, then advanced handlines to quickly extinguish the remaining fire."

According to Colleton-County Fire, most of the fire was contained to the apartment where the blaze started, but smoke and water damaged other units in the building.
