CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - As we approach the long memorial day weekend, many are thinking about time off from work, traveling, or simply having a good time.
While it's a holiday dedicated to the memory of those who died in active military service, who we should honor, Memorial Day has also become associated with drunk driving.
Whether on the highway or the waterways, South Carolina has one of the highest percentages of traffic deaths due to drunk driving.
Three years ago, it was 44 percent, well above the national average.
If you're going to drink, please don't drive. If you're going out with friends, have a designated driver. And don't ride with someone who's drinking.
Enjoy the holiday and be safe.
