Officers searching for suspect after fatal N. Charleston shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - Officers are searching for a suspect following a fatal shooting in North Charleston Friday morning.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. North Charleston police officers responded to the Max Quick Stop at 2000 McMillian Avenue in reference to a male victim outside of the store suffering from a gunshot wound.

"The victim was transported by EMS to the hospital where he died," NCPD officials said.

The coroner's office identified the victim as 32-year-old Karriem Imran Mitchell of North Charleston. He was pronounced dead at 10:32 a.m. at MUSC dying from a gunshot wound.

According to investigators, the victim and a male suspect were involved in an altercation which led to the suspect shooting the victim.

"The suspect fled the scene reportedly in the direction of Horizon Village, NCPD officials said."Officers searched the area of Verde Street but did not locate the suspect."

Police describe the suspect as a black male in his early 30's, approximately 5'10 and 155 lbs, and was last seen wearing a red tank top, grey camo shorts and a ball cap.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.
