COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a 69-year-old Lowcountry woman has been arrested after deputies discovered 68 dogs and five cats living in deplorable conditions.
The Colleton County Sheriff's Office arrested Lynne Lucille Vanhouse of Augusta Highway in Round O.
CCSO officials say Vanhouse was charged with ten counts of Ill treatment of animals.
Vanhouse's arrest stems from an incident on May 16 when deputies with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Augusta Highway to assist Colleton County Animal Control.
"Deputies discovered 68 dogs and 5 cats living in deplorable conditions," CCSO officials say.
According to officials, the animals were taken into protective custody.
"During the investigation, numerous deceased animal carcasses were found on the ground and in holding pens," officials said.
After an in depth investigation, Vanhouse was arrested on Friday and transported to Colleton County Detention Center.
Vanhouse was given a PR bond set at $50,000.
