Authorities investigating deadly shooting in Walterboro

WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC) - Authorities in Walterboro are working to gather details on a deadly shooting.

According to authorities, two adult males were shot during an incident that occurred at the drive through of a fast food restaurant located at 1404 Sniders Hwy. in Walterboro the morning of June 4. Antoine Sams, 33, died of his injuries.

Authorities say they received reports of a person shot in the parking lot of the Quality Inn located at 1286 Sniders Highway at 3:15 a.m.

The latest reports state officers from the Walterboro Police Department were patrolling the area of when they heard several shots fired and a vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed.

A vehicle pursuit ensued where the driver failed to yield to the officers blue lights and ended in a minor vehicle accident.

A Walterboro Police Officer responding to the incident found an adult male lying unconscious in the parking lot of the McDonald's Restaurant located in front of the motel.

The man suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and was not breathing. The Police Officer and a Sheriff's Deputy began performing CPR on the man and assisted with chest compressions after Firefighter-Paramedics arrived to continue advanced life support procedures.

The man was rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center.

He did not survive his injuries.

Authorities then responded to the second victim at Quality Inn. He also suffered multiple life threatening gunshot wounds and was rapidly transported to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical in Summerville.

Additional Firefighter-Paramedics assisted with his care during transport. A third man was transported from the scene due to a medical problem.

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating the incident.
