ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A man trying to dock his boat on a South Carolina lake has drowned after the boat drifted away. Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown sais 45-year-old Allan Garber of Townville died early Sunday. McCown said Garber's boat drifted away and he went in the water to try to retrieve it. His body was found in 10 feet of water.
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A man sent to prison for life without parole in the 1992 shooting death of a sheriff's deputy in South Carolina is getting a new sentencing hearing. Court documents filed in Anderson on Monday approve a new sentencing hearing for 42-year-old Joseph Hudgins. He had pleaded guilty in 2001 for the shooting death of deputy Chris Taylor.
GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina health officials are trying to determine why more than 100 students at a primary school were sickened last week. The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that state Department of Health and Environmental Control spokesman Tim Kelly said Monday that Westview Primary School in Goose Creek experienced "a norovirus-like illness outbreak." Kelly said the results of stool samples from afflicted students should be back this week.
CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina sheriff wants to shut down a nightclub where a man was shot seven times last weekend, calling the year-old club's history troubled. The State of Columbia reports Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says deputies are looking for ways to force Club Sauce to close, with the most likely option being asking state officials to withdraw its liquor license.
