BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Officials with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office say they have asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate politicians in connection to a council race.

The sheriff's office asked SLED to investigate possible ethics violations against Rep. Samuel Rivers, Berkeley County Supervisor William Peagler, Deputy County Supervisor Tim Callanan and County Councilman Ken Gunn.

On Thursday morning, Sheriff Duane Lewis met with Elaine Barnett, candidate for Berkeley County Council, Stephen Smith, candidate for the S.C. House of Representatives and Donald Bailey, a concerned citizen and resident of Berkeley County regarding the allegations.

According to a report, Barnett told investigators that she was offered certain jobs or commissions if she would reconsider running for Berkeley County Council Seat for District 3.
