DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Get ready for a hot afternoon across the Lowcountry. A heat advisory has been issued for Dorchester, Beaufort, Hampton and inland Colleton counties.
The National Weather Service service says the advisory will be in effect from noon Tuesday to 6 p.m.
Humidity on the rise since Monday night combined with the heat will push heat index values over 100 degrees through the evening. Temperatures upwards of 92 degrees are expected between noon and 3 p.m.
"If you're working outside, even in areas not included in this advisory, you want to be careful today," Meteorologist Joey Sovine said. "You want to stay out of the direct sunshine as much as possible."
With the increase of heat and humidity, a few isolated afternoon and evening showers and storms can't be ruled out.
The rain chance will slowly increase over the next several days as the heat continues through Friday. A cold front will pass through the area Friday night bringing much cooler weather for Father's Day weekend.
