MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Power has been restored to hundreds of customers in Mount Pleasant after a car crashed into a transformer box and caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Mount Pleasant police officers say the crash occurred on Muirhead Road.

No injuries were reported.

According to SCE&G officials, the crash caused extensive damage to electrical equipment.

Michael Collins said he was building an outdoor fireplace in I'On when he heard a loud bang around 12:30 p.m.

"Then I noticed the power lines and polls that where directly over my head swing and shake," Collins said."One of the lines dropped down in the yard about 30 feet away then I heard the power lines pop and explode."

Collins said he then heard a woman screaming, and contacted 911.

According to Collins, he and another man ran across the dog park to see the driver sitting behind the wheel of the car which had been damaged by a poll.

Collins said he and others then assisted the driver to get out of the area as electric cables were danging above the vehicle.
