CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Nearly one year after the shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church, a local pastor led the same bible study his wife was teaching when she was killed.
Rev. Anthony Thompson spoke before dozens of people during the congregation's weekly bible study on Wednesday evening.
His wife, Myra, was leading bible study when Dylann Roof allegedly shot and killed her and eight others on June 17, 2015.
Rev. Thompson said Myra, who was studying to become a minister, had prepared for a month before the lesson.
"She was pretty anxious because she's serious about her church and she just wanted to make sure that when she fed the people the word, she would be doing the right thing and giving them the right word and they would understand what she was saying," Rev. Thompson said.
Rev. Thompson said he taught the same scripture, the Parable of the Sower, and used his wife's notes.
"She's a perfectionist, that's just the way she is," he said. "Even on the day before she even came to church that evening, she was sitting at the den table, still working on it."
Rev. Thompson is the current pastor at Holy Trinity Reformed Episcopal Church in Charleston.
