Fatal fire in Williamsburg County under investigation

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Deputies with the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office along with the Williamsburg County Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire that occurred on Blakely Road in Salters, South Carolina on June 18, 2016 around 4:17 a.m.

According to Investigators, Rosa Lee Palmer, age 65  of Salters, South Carolina died as a result of this incident.

Rosezette Morris, age 49,  was severely burnt during the structure fire. Morris attempted to get her mother, Rosa Palmer to safety, but she was unsuccessful.

Morris received extensive burns on her body from the residential fire. Morris was flown to the Augusta Burn Unit located in Augusta, Georgia for medical treatment.

Based on information at the scene the fire started in the middle vicinity of the mobile home.

The Williamsburg County Coroner's Office also responded to the scene concerning this incident.

Palmer's body will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina located in Charleston, South Carolina for an autopsy.

SLED will be assisting with the investigation. The cause of the structure fire is undetermined at this time. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
