The Charleston Police Department says a father and daughter were arrested Saturday after one of them removed Confederate flags from the back of a truck.

Paul Folckomer, 50, and Lydia Folckomer, 22, are facing charges after two men said a young woman took their flags while they were standing on the sidewalk holding Confederate and historical Southern flags, according to an incident report.

One of the victims told police the woman’s father stepped in front of the them and “put hands” on them to keep them from chasing her. Folckomer said he was unaware his daughter took the flags and was trying to protect her, the report states.

Lydia Folckomer was charged with malicious injury to real property. Paul Folckomer was charged with simple assault.

They have both been released on bond.
