CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - MUSC's Children's Hospital is ranked among the nation's top pediatric hospitals for 2016-17.
The Medical University of South Carolina's pediatric center is the only such hospital in South Carolina to be ranked this year by U.S. News & World Report. The MUSC Children's Hospital is nationally ranked in six of the ten different pediatric specialties considered for the report.
It received the highest ranking (No. 20) for cardiology and heart surgery. The hospital also ranked highly for nephrology (No. 22), urology (No. 29), cancer (No. 37), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 39) and diabetes and endocrinology (No. 47). The specialties of pediatric cancer, gastroenterology and GI surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, and urology were all new to the national rankings for MUSC.
U.S News & World Report surveyed 183 hospitals for the report and ranked the top 50 U.S. pediatric hospitals in each of the ten specialties. Hospitals are ranked according to the quality of resources for patient care. This can include staffing and technology, delivery of healthcare, pediatric specialists, and clinical outcomes.
