MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant Police say traffic is flowing "fairly well" on Long Point Road after all commercial traffic headed to the Wando Port was diverted earlier Thursday afternoon.

Police now plan to limit commercial traffic headed to the port to 10 trucks at a time.

Police said commercial traffic was being diverted as of shortly before 2 p.m. in a Twitter post.

Thursday marks the fourth day in which a new gate system at the port has backed up traffic from Long Point Road onto the eastbound shoulder of I-526.

On Wednesday, the SC Ports Authority CEO and president, Jim Newsome, apologized for software bugs and said his team was working hard to resolve the problems.

The major changes with advanced gate system include required gate codes from truck drivers. When drivers don't have the code, they have to call their dispatchers to get it. That clogs the system.
