GOOSE CREEK, SC - Two of three missing Dorchester County inmates were recaptured Sunday night, deputies say.
Michael Chaplin and Matthew Chaplin were captured in a residence on Foxboro Road in Goose Creek, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
They were each given a $100,000 bond on Monday. The brothers refused to attend the bond hearing.
Donald Ray Little remains on the run.
Deputies say nobody was injured while re-capturing the Chaplin brothers.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is still searching for a car possibly stolen by the inmates in Goose Creek, according to the department's Facebook page.
Saturday afternoon Major Baker with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office said police were searching the Goose Creek area for three inmates who escaped from the Dorchester County Jail Friday.
Donald Little, Michael Chaplin and Matthew Chaplin, are the three inmates who Dorchester County Sheriff L.C. Knight says pried open a window to get out of the St. George facility early Friday morning.
Maj. Baker says the escaped inmates led deputies on a car chase through the Sangaree area Saturday afternoon.
They abandoned their vehicle near the 203 mile marker of Frontage Road, and ran off into the woods near Wannamaker Park.
The inmates have not been captured, and authorities with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office as well as the Charleston County Sheriff's office, and the North Charleston Police department are all working together to find them.
A helicopter and K-9 units were involved in the search.
Baker said that all residents in the surrounding areas should stay indoors, and nearby Charleston Southern University was put on lockdown.
The three inmates were observed by jail staff at approximately 3 a.m., according to Dorchester County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Sam Richardson. But approximately 35 minutes later, the three were missing. Richardson said they broke a metal table support bar from a writing table and used the bar to pry out a window that measured 24 inches long and nine inches wide.
They escaped wearing only their tee-shirts and underwear and used bed linens to lower themselves to the ground floor, Richardson said.
Authorities say the trio stole a vehicle from a nearby home after the escape. That vehicle, a 2000 Dodge extended cab pickup truck with a diamond plated tool box in the back, was located near College Park Road late Friday afternoon.
Richardson said Little was jailed on a probation violation. Matthew Chaplin was jailed on charges of grand larceny, two counts of breaking into automobiles, possession of meth, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and financial transaction card fraud, he said. Michael Chaplin was jailed on two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree burglary and grand larceny charges.
Anyone with information on the location of the escapees should contact the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office at (843) 873-5111.
