Philip Knowles, a rising sophomore at North Florida, shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday to win the Rice Planters Amateur Tournament at RiverTowne Country Club.
Knowles, who started the day tied for the lead with NC State's Chad Cox, put together a solid final round getting birdies on holes 1, 4, 16 and 17.
Cox was one of a number of players who was in contention for the win throughout the afternoon. After shooting a tournament course record 64 on Friday, Cox was steady on the front nine birding the 9th hole to go to 8-under. But he'd run into trouble on the back collecting a double bogey on 13 and a bogey on 15. He would bounce back to birdie 16 and 17 to finish in a four-way tie for 2nd place at -7.
Will Miles of South Carolina, Will Grimmer of Ohio State and Eddie Wajda III of Wisconsin also finished at -7.
CofC's William Rainey, who won this event in 2015, finished tied for 6th place at -6 after shooting 4-under on Saturday.
