ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - An Orangeburg man is behind bars after authorities say he robbed a Good Samaritan who gave him a ride to his home.
Adriel Morgan, 32, was in court on Wednesday to face a charge of armed robbery after a woman was held up at gunpoint last week.
OCSO officials say a judge granted a motion to deny bond on the Harper Street man.
According to the sheriff's office, Morgan's charge originated after a woman said her phone and wallet were taken at gunpoint during an incident that happened on June 22.
The woman told investigators that she saw Morgan walking along Joe Jeffords Highway.
"She said she knew him from a local soup kitchen and stopped to see if he needed a ride," OCSO officials said.
A report states as the woman was dropping the man off at his house, he pulled out a handgun.
"She began to fight with the man but he fled after grabbing her purse that contained personal papers and her cell phone," authorities said.
Morgan was captured on Tuesday.
