Summerville police searching for robbery, kidnapping suspect

SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Police are searching for a Summerville man in connection with an armed robbery and kidnapping.

Shawn Maurice Kitt, 27, is wanted for charges of robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, first degree assault, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to Summerville Police Capt. John Rogers.

Police say Kitt is considered armed and dangerous.

Police responded to Trident Hospital at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a kidnapping that had taken place in Evergreen. The victim was being transported to Trident after he said he had been kidnapped and assaulted.

The responding officer reported seeing duct tape on both wrists and ankles of the victim and dried blood above his left eye along with a one-inch laceration on the left side of his forehead.

The man told police he had been kidnapped from behind a house on Magwood Drive. The victim said four men, including one he said was named "Shawn," kidnapped him at approximately 2 p.m., the police report states.

The victim told police he was helping a friend move into a home and was outside the home smoking a cigarette when two males approached him; one of them hit him in the head with a "shiny spin barrel handgun," at which point a struggle began, he said.

He told police he was hit in the sternum with a black handgun, then hit just above the hips on both sides and punched in the stomach and collapsed. He was then dragged to a white Chevrolet car with rims and placed in the back seat between the two men and had a bag placed over his head, the report states.

He told police the men told him during a drive to the Reevesville area that if he moved they would shoot him.

He was taken inside a residence, placed in a chair and forced to place his hands behind his back and was bound, the report states. He said his legs were bound to the chair legs with duct tape and was told his brother "had better come up with $20,000 or they would kill him," the report states. He told police the men knew his brother made "good money," the report states.

He told police he was able to escape by ripping the duct tape and free himself while the man watching him went to answer a knock at the door. He escaped out of the window of the home, the report states.

The victim said the men took his wallet and his cell phone.

Anyone with information on Kitt's whereabouts is asked to call Summerville Police at (843) 871-2463 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
