Workshops being held to help farmers apply for state aid

The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is teaming up with the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service to provide a number of educational workshops for farmers trying to apply for assistance under the South Carolina Farm Aide Grant program.

The $40 million grant will be divided among farmers who lost crops in last year's floods.

The first workshop will be held Friday at Brown's Bar-B-Que in Kingstree from 10 a.m. to noon. Contact Jacob Stokes at (803) 460-3971 to register.

Another meeting will be held Wednesday, July 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the USDA Vegetable Lab on Savannah Highway. No registration is required. For more information, contact Jack Snipes at (843) 730-5209.
