CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Crews from SCE&G have secured a gas leak in downtown Charleston that forced a road to be closed and police to advise people to avoid the area.

A gas line on Orrs Court was struck by contractors Thursday morning, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.

The leak was secured at 12:02 p.m., according to SCE&G spokesperson Kim Asbill. She said crews will remain on the scene to make repairs to the damaged line.

Orrs Court was closed and police were advising people to avoid the adjacent area on Fishburne and Sumter Streets.
