Judge orders federal prosecutors to explain charges against accused Charleston church gunman

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

A federal judge issued new order in the case against Dylann Roof, the man accused of killing nine people inside Mother Emanuel AME Church last year.

Judge Richard Gergel ordered the government to file a bill of particulars, or to be more specific in its more recent filing.

Last week, Roof's lawyers wanted several charges of the indictment against Roof dismissed. The motion said prosecutors did not explain how the crimes affected interstate commerce, which is one of the key factors that could qualify this as a federal case.
