A fire that began Friday afternoon at a paper storage warehouse in North Charleston is under control, but crews remain on the scene working to completely extinguish the fire.
Firefighters continue to use heavy equipment to separate the contents to make sure the fire is completely out, North Charleston Fire Department spokesperson Bianca Bourbeau said.
Those firefighters are expected to remain on the scene throughout the day, she said.
The fire was reported at approximately 1:59 p.m. Friday at Sunset Trading on Hock Avenue. The warehouse was "heavily involved" in fire when the first units arrived on the scene. A large portion of the warehouse suffered heavy damage but fire damage was limited from a portion of the building including the office area.
No employees were injured in the fire, but four firefighters were hospitalized on Friday for heat exhaustion and a minor injury, North Charleston Fire Marshal Cindy Killette said. All four were treated and released.
The City of Charleston, St. Andrews, Hanahan, Summerville, Mount Pleasant Fire Departments, Charleston County EMS and County Rescue, along with additional Tri-County agencies assisted North Charleston firefighters on the scene.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
