CPD recommending motorcycle/moped riders use locking devices

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston Police Department are recommending motorcycle and moped riders to use security measure to lock their vehicles.

A report states police are noticing an increase in motorcycle and mope thefts due to the victims leaving their vehicles unsecure.

CPD officials are recommending riders to lock their vehicle with a device pictured above.

"This type of lock prevents the rotor from moving more than the circumference of the rotor, meaning that if a subject wishes to steal the bike, they would have to lift it up," CPD officials said."Normal handlebar locks can be easily defeated, merely by pulling hard enough.  There are a variety of rotor locks available online, ranging in price from $15 to $100 (with alarms)."
