Two men are in custody facing murder charges following a shooting Tuesday in Eutawville that killed a woman and injured a second victim.

Zaquan Taste, 18, and Treshawn Jenkins, 22, were both charged with murder, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff's spokesman Richard Walker.

“The extensive search for these individuals was lengthy and went late into the night and early morning hours of Wednesday,” he said. “Following the heinous acts the actions of these individuals, we conducted a massive search that covered much of the eastern portion of Orangeburg County.”

A warrant for murder has also been obtained for a third suspect, Matt Brown, 20, from Holly Hill, who is still at large, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff's spokesman Richard Walker.

More charges are expected, Walker said.

Deputies responded to a property on Craig Street at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found one woman dead and learned a man had been taken to a hospital for treatment of what was said to be a gunshot wound, Walker said.

Witnesses told deputies several men in a black vehicle drove up and spoke with a man in a group of people at the scene. As the vehicle began to leave, occupants in the vehicle began firing multiple weapons at the group, killing the woman and injuring the man, Walker said.

According to an incident report, the woman killed was hit by a stray bullet while she was sitting in a shed on the property. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.

Investigators spotted a vehicle believed to have fled the shooting location and engaged the vehicle in "a brief but intense chase," Walker said.

The suspect’s vehicle went into a ditch near a wooded area east of Holly Hill and the men inside deserted the vehicle and ran into nearby woods, deputies say.

From that point, a perimeter was set up to conduct a search over a large area of the county. Officers searched the area of Fourwinds and Catamount Road near Holly Hill for the subjects Tuesday afternoon.

Units from Berkeley County, Eutawville, Holly Hill, St. George and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division joined the search.

“We’d like to thank the many agencies for their response that came without hesitation,” he said. “These agencies immediately responded with not only deputies but resources as well.”
