SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - In light of recent police-involved shootings, communities in the Tri-County area are showing support for local law enforcement.
The Summerville Police Department is one of the many local agencies that have seen an outpouring of support from the community.
Officers say they haven't seen this much outreach since right after 9-11. From cards to meals, to a simple handshake, they say it's steady thank you from the community.
It started after the shooting in Dallas where five police officer were killed. Since then, the cards haven't stopped coming. A lot of them are hand-written from children.
From Mount Pleasant to Charleston to Summerville, officers have been touched with the kindness. In fact, they say it's made them emotional at times and proud to serve a community so caring.
If you want to give something to law enforcement agencies, it's a good idea to call before you show up with gifts.
