CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston City Council is moving forward to create a 19-member commission to look at ways to revitalize West Ashley.
It's about time.
It's a great place to work and live, but West Ashley has long needed a facelift, new parks, public spaces, improved drainage and especially improved traffic.
The 25-year plan would cost more than $130 million. That's not cheap, but the best part is the city council seems determined to do it without raising taxes; instead, paying for the project by supplementing current tax revenues with federal funding and economic development grants.
To that, we say bravo, and let's get started.
