Lowcountry High School Football Preview 2016 - 4A

VIDEO: Stall looks to turn things around

Berkeley Stags

Head Coach: Randy Robinson (1st season)

Last Year: 3-7

Top Returners – Darius Douglas (Sr, QB)  Israel Mukuamu (Jr, CB)   DJ Robinson (Sr, RB)  Davion Moore (Sr, WR)

Top Newcomers – D'Montrey Singleton (Jr, RB/CB)  DJ Chisolm (So, WR/DB)

Randy Robinson couldn't be any more excited to start his first season with the Stags saying it's "an awesome place to work, the people are so excited about football here". He'll have a solid foundation to start led by QB Darius Douglas who Robinson called "amazing". Offensively, Berkeley will run a lot of 3-wide similar to Clemson. While Robinson said defensively they've had to "start from scratch".

Cane Bay Cobras

Head Coach: Russell Zehr (6th season)

Last Year: 6-6

Top Returners – RJ Roderick (Jr, QB)  Kris Copeland (Jr, WR)  Damon Deford (Sr, FB)  Trace Turner (Sr, C)  Dorian Baker (Sr, WR)  Nathan West (Sr, DE)  Antonio Sherrod (Sr, LB)  Rolando Burse (Sr, CB)

Top Newcomers – DeAntre Walker (Jr, RB)  Dayveon Fulton (Jr, LB)

The Cobras two best players on offense, Roderick and Copeland, are still young but have a year of experience under their belts which could be huge. Coach Zehr says the amount of improvement he saw in Roderick from Week 1 last year to the end of the season was phenomenal. With a solid offensive line in front of them, Cane Bay is hoping to add a few new wrinkles to the play calling this season and opening things up.

Colleton County Cougars

Head Coach: Chris Collins (5th season)

Last Year: 5-6

Top Returners – George Crosby (Sr, OL)  Craig Grant (Jr, QB)  Germaine Clayton (Sr, OL/DL)

Top Newcomers – Latrell Jenkins (Jr, FS)  Jayden Koger (Jr, DB)

Things will be looking a lot different for the Cougars this season as head coach Chris Collins has switched schemes on both offense and defense. Offensively Colleton will be a pass heavy team led by very accurate QB Craig Grant. They'll have 8 or 9 receivers rotating in and out to give him plenty of targets. On defense, the Cougars will be blitz heavy to take advantage of their speed on that side of the ball and attempt to overcome their lack of size.

Stall Warriors

Head Coach: Joe Bessinger (3rd season)

Last Year: 0-10

Top Returners – DeVon McCoy (Sr, WR)  Juwann Scott (Jr, CB)  Mack Patterson (Sr, WR)  Quaizon Banks (Sr, OT)  Derius McNeil (Sr, LB)

Top Newcomers – Andre Reavis (Sr, OL)

"There's nowhere to go but up" is Joe Bessinger's message after the Warriors have gone 1-19 in his first two seasons. But the coach is extremely optimistic about this season. Stall has the best depth on the roster they've had in years led by standout receiver DeVon McCoy. Bessinger says the participation in the Summer has been great and thinks they'll be much more competitive this season.
