JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies are searching for a suspect after a man was shot during a home invasion Saturday.

Deputies were called to Gibbs Road at approximately 1:30 a.m.

The incident started when a man went to a home and knocked on the front door, according to an incident report. The occupants remained in their living room, refusing to open the door.

A female victim told police the knocking got louder before she started hearing gunshots.

The suspect kicked the door down and shot a man in the home after asking "where's the money,"  she said. The woman hid until the suspect left.

The male victim called a relative, who picked him up shortly after and started driving him to the hospital. She called police while on the way and was told to wait for emergency personnel at a nearby intersection. The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he's still recovering.

Deputies tried to search for the suspect using K9s but were unable to pick up a scent, the incident report states.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
