Lane closure announcement for Harbor View Rd. improvement project

Charleston County Government announced the daytime and nighttime lane closures for Harbor View Road during the Harbor View Road Improvement project.

Along with the closures, a temporary traffic shift will take place between Quail Drive and Affirmation Boulevard next week. Businesses and residential properties along Harbor View Road will be accessible at all times.

The purpose of the improvement project is to improve traffic flow and safety on Harbor View Road. The improvement will also provide adequate bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The scheduled completion of the project is expected in December 2016.

Nighttime lane closures for Sunday through Thursday:

  • Nighttime lane closures will occur on Harbor View Road.
  • Work will occur between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday night.
  • Work will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.

Daytime lane closures for Monday through Wednesday

  • Ayers Drive and Clearview Drive will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
  • Flagmen will be on site to control traffic.
  • At no time will the entire roadway be blocked to traffic.

Traffic shift Monday through Wednesday:

  • Traffic will be shifted between Quail Drive and Affirmation Boulevard.
  • The center lane will be eliminated between these roads.

The project will include an addition of a center two-way left turn lane between North Shore Drive and Affirmation Boulevard, an addition of right turn lanes at major intersections, an addition of traffic signals at Fort Sumter Drive and Mikell Drive, the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Harbor View Road and Fort Johnson Road, and the addition of pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
