BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County Council honored three Good Samaritans for saving a baby from a house fire.
On May 31, a family's home went up in flames in the Overton community and a 14-month-old baby was trapped inside.
Before fire crews arrived on scene, three neighbors jumped into action, running into the burning house to look for the baby and then administering CPR once it was rescued.
Steve Johnson, Tina Huggins and Douglas Kennedy say they're humbled to be recognized for their good deed.
"When he took his first breath it was like thank god," Huggins said."The child is meant for great things definitely."
"I think I did what any man would do," said Johnson."It's a child's life."
"A couple weeks later the baby was in the neighborhood and I got to hold it and it gave me a high five and that did make me feel good," Kennedy said.
After the incident the baby was taken to the hospital where it fully recovered.
The family has since moved but has been back to the neighborhood to visit the people who helped them.
