Downtown Charleston street reopens following structure fire

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Sheppard Street in downtown Charleston has reopened following a structure fire Thursday afternoon. 

CFD officials say the fire was in the area of Rutledge Avenue and Sheppard Street. 

First arriving fire personnel reported a two story residential building with smoke visible.

"Crews made a rapid attack to extinguish the fire and are in the process of conducting overhaul," CFD officials said."Fire Investigators have responded to conduct an investigation."

Units with Charleston, North Charleston, and James Island Fire Departments, Charleston County EMS and Charleston PD responded to the fire at 3:28 p.m.
